PROJECT
“DEAD VENUE SESSIONS”
CLIENT
MARSHALL
IDEA
Marshall is on a mission to Keep Live Music Alive, so to make this point we took young bands to play at some of the most iconic music venues... that have closed.
Even though you can’t actually play a dead venue, we set out to perform a song where the stage once was, by any means necessary. Trespassing, sneaking in, bribes, open public spaces, no location permits, unsuspecting bystanders, noise complaints, intense workouts, buzz cuts, cut budgets, three great brands, three incredible performances, and one critically important message to keep your local venues alive.

EPISODE 01
PLANTA INDUSTRIAL LIVE FROM CHINA CHALET
China Chalet was an incredible place in the depths of downtown NYC. A Chinese restaurant turned music venue and club, it was a true melting pot of cultures, genres, and styles. It closed in 2020, now it’s a food court and arcade.

EPISODE 02
SWEET PILL LIVE FROM STALAG 13
Stalag 13 was a legendary underground DIY punk, hardcore, and metal venue located in West Philly in the 90’s. Part of a row of squat venues, it represents the kind of comunity-led illegal venues that are becoming increasingly rare. It closed in 1999, now it’s a gym.

EPISODE 03
THE LINDA LINDAS LIVE FROM THE LONDON FOG
The London Fog was a small but important venue on the Sunset Strip. While not as iconic as its neighbor Whisky A Go Go, it was a band incubator for all of the legendary Sunset Strip venues, and notably where The Doors got their start. It closed in 1966, now it’s a barber shop.
